Faith Meets Doubt

This blog is a humble attempt at fostering genuine conversation in one of the areas of modern life where the endeavour seems fraught with peril: dialogue between Atheists and Christians. As the English writer G. K. Chesterton famously said, ‘the old restriction meant that only the orthodox were allowed to discuss religion. Modern liberty means that nobody is allowed to discuss it’. Well, here is a space of debate for all those willing to go against the tide.

I am a PhD student, based in San Sebastián (Spain), working at the intersection of cognitive science, linguistics and philosophy of mind, though, as you can probably guess, I also have a keen interest in theology and religious studies. The fascinating and fast-paced developments in the contemporary ‘sciences of the mind’ seem to be unlocking valuable insights into age-old questions: What is consciousness? What are the limits of human perception? What does it mean to be rational, to be a language-user, to be an animal? Questions that help us approach religious faith in a new light—Wouldn’t you want to blog about these too?
